75 years of PCC cars in The Hague

c

This year The Hague celebrates 75 years of PCC’s in the city. It started in 1949 with two PCC’s that
came knocked down from the St Louis Car Factory in the USA and were adapted to European circumstances (narrower Streets) in Bruges, Belgium. In the following decades the HTM – the The Hague Tramway operator – got 234 PCC’s, which were in service until 1993. Now they are running as specials and during the summer months on a Tourist Tram service. There is an foto exhibition about the history of the PCC in the USA and Europe in the museum depot, and as a special guest star’ there is also a PCC from Brussels; later PCC’s from other Belgian cities will also form part of the festivities.

On Sunday June 2 nd the Tramway Museum takes over the regular service on tram route 11 between one of the main station and the beach. With PCC’s, of course!

The museum is in a former tramway depot from 1906, located at Parallelweg 224 along the routes of the tramways 9, 11 and 12. The museum is open every Sunday afternoon between 12.30 and 17.00 The entrance fee includes a tram ride through the city.
